San Francisco 49ers: Biggest Offseason Needs

Cornerback

There’s a strong possibility that the 49ers will lose both of their starting cornerbacks this offseason. Carlos Rogers‘ base salary in 2014 is $6.25 million, and he is no longer the number one cornerback on the 49ers. He’s also 32, so unless they can re-negotiate his contract, it’s likely that the 49ers will release Rogers.

Tarell Brown is also a free agent. If the 49ers can re-sign him at a relatively inexpensive price, he might be worth bringing back. Otherwise, the 49ers will most likely let him walk.

Tramaine Brock had a very productive 2013 season, and Chris Culliver will return in 2014 after missing all of the 2013 season with a torn ACL.

The 49ers implement the nickel defense a lot, so they will need to add at least one or two other cornerbacks. Since the NFL is so pass-heavy now, the 49ers definitely need to create more depth at that position.
