GSW: Patrick McCaw Will Be Key Role Player for Warriors

In the 2016 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors acquired draft rights to Patrick McCaw out of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and at the time, it was an under-the-radar type of move.

Patrick McCaw, the 21 year-old shooting guard, was originally selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 38th pick, so the fact that the Warriors acquired him wasn’t exactly earth-shattering news.

The Golden State Warriors’ quest for another championship this season was almost derailed on February 28th when Kevin Durant suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain and a tibial bone bruise. This ended up being one of the biggest blessings in disguise for Stephen Curry and the Warriors this season.

The Golden State Warriors emphatically swept the Portland Trail Blazers in their first round playoff series, despite facing health concerns throughout the series involving head coach Steve Kerr and injuries to players such as Kevin Durant (left calf strain), Matt Barnes (right ankle/foot sprain), and Shaun Livingston (right index finger sprain and hand contusion).

In the 2015-16 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors faced a juxtaposition of theories. Some fans and NBA analysts believed that the Warriors winning the 2015 NBA Finals was a fluke and that they wouldn’t be able to repeat the success they had in the 2015-16 season, especially since winning back-to-back titles in the NBA is near impossible. Other fans and analysts believed that after the Warriors won an NBA record 73 games in the 2015-16 regular season, they were the clear favorites to win the 2016 NBA Finals.

The Golden State Warriors have already secured the top seed throughout the playoffs, but their first round opponent is unknown right now, as the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets each have one more game to play in order to determine who will earn the last playoff spot in the Western Conference.
