Donte Whitner is a free agent this season, and it’s unclear if the 49ers will re-sign him. He’s coming off of a great season, so his price tag might be too high for the 49ers.
The 49ers have many other free agents or players who are seeking contract extensions that they will have to deal with first before they can decide if they want to or are able to re-sign Whitner. Since it’s likely the 49ers won’t be able to re-sign Whitner, they will have to find an upgrade at strong safety for next season through the draft or free agency.
