2. Clutch hitting

During the season, the Giants have hit .250 with runners in scoring position, which actually ranks fourth in the NL. However, they leave an average of 3.81 runners in scoring position per game, which ranks second-to-last in all of MLB. In the last three games, they have left 5.00 runners on base. Additionally, at home, they have left an average of 3.96 runners on base.

Throughout the season, it seems as if the Giants haven’t had much trouble getting a hit with runners in scoring position. However, they have had trouble getting that extra hit that leads to more runs. They’re getting the right people up at-bat at the right times, but they just haven’t been capitalizing on their opportunities. They’ve also been wasting good pitching performances recently from Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner, Tim Lincecum and Chad Gaudin.
