The San Francisco Giants have fond memories of the last time they played the Detroit Tigers. During the Giants’ last visit to Detroit, they celebrated their second World Series victory in three seasons. The Giants were crowned the 2012 World Series champions after sweeping the Tigers, and the Tigers had to watch as the Giants celebrated on their home field.

For the second time this season, Madison Bumgarner has been named the National League’s Pitcher of the Month for the month of August.
In August, Bumgarner posted a league-best 1.57 ERA, and he finished with a 4-1 record. In six starts and 46 innings in August, Bumgarner struck out 56, walked just three, gave up 26 hits, and allowed opponents to hit just .164 against him. He also tossed three complete games.

Entering the 2014 season, the San Francisco Giants lacked an everyday, reliable second baseman. Brandon Hicks had some success at the beginning of the season, but then he fell into and couldn’t break out of a serious offensive slump. Ehire Adrianza battled injuries, and he still hasn’t proved that he can hit at the major league level.
The Dan Uggla experiment should never have happened, and it failed miserably. Marco Scutaro came back for five games, but then went straight back to the DL.
The Giants also failed to pick up a second baseman at the trade deadline, despite being linked in a few trade rumors to Ben Zobrist, Martin Prado, Aaron Hill, and others.
The Giants were left with very few options. They had to look to their farm system for some assistance. Enter Joe Panik.

The Golden State Warriors have signed two free agent forwards who were on their Summer League team this year. The Warriors signed James Michael McAdoo and Mitchell Watt to contracts today, and the terms of the contract were not released.

The San Francisco Giants kick off September by traveling to Denver to take on the Colorado Rockies. This originally was a three-game series, but the Giants and Rockies will also have to complete the suspended game from May 22nd, which is scheduled to be played at 1:10 today before the first game of this series.
